@miraflores
I asume you are refering to 'MelvinBlanck' I wonder if he knows?
@Ian,
I started deleting 1500 of my fotos after he uploaded 115 fotos of just one vessel.
Then 114 images were deleted (I don't know who did it) and now he starts again uploading rubbish.
I gave him several comments also in german language because he is just 15 years old and I don't know if he understands english.
Thats why I stop all my activities and wait what happens within the next days. But possible is that I delete all my fotos.
@miraflores,
I have sent two e-mails via your web site in the hope that we can comunicate in private. If you receive them, please reply.
Hola saludos
Javier
Hola saludos
Well my point is that I will try to upload a single photo of each ship, I would like to put at least three, but that is not happening to me is very difficult to find ships to leave my most beautiful before but now it was easier became more complicated, that is why some boats have 4 or more shots, I think in my opinion should be limited to four photos per ship
but I was saying that before it easy to remove several photos.
Javier
Miraflores,
Guys from DS are on holiday now. Wait before you delete all your pics.
I agree that we should use some rules about upload pictures, but I find it childish that you will delete all your pictures, only for this reason.
This is still a young community and they never had the problem before that 1 person is uploading 150 pictures of only 1 vessel without a picture of the vessel.
I agree that there should be some people who are watch over the quantity of a picture and I would prefer that you are 1 of them. You know a lot about copyright abuse.
Maybe Lars & Co have to make a garbage icon under a picture. When 10 members hit that garbage icon, the vessel is good for deletion.

I love your serious work and the way of taking two good shots of the vessel up and downhill.
<<unquote>>
When I write uphill and downhill I do not mean a bowshot and a sternshot of a ship, I mean a ship is going uphill/downhill on an unleveled horizon. (Could be straightened with PICASA)
@miraflores: I completely agree with your opinions regarding the quality standards. I disagree with the way of reaching new ways via putting pressure or stop talking about the issue. Many people are putting effort into this place and we should try to talk to each other as man in an honest way. I will always do.
@all: thanks for the patience, we've been for the first holidays this year to a small island without any connectivity....
I talked with my older son (13 years) last night about his gaming environments, chats and moderated worlds (4story etc), which was quiet remarkable for me. He said, without someone in control, people inside forum talks would probably kill each other....:)
I am familiar with the topic of admins and moderators for some years and I think it's time to introduce the concept to Digital-Seas. So here are my ideas:
- we will set up new userrights like : ImageAdmin, ForumAdmin, PowerUser
- starting with the ImageAdmin, I would love to talk to famous uploaders like miraflores, stevo, ian, pluijm etc about taking control in this group in terms of quality decisions:
- the ImageAdmin sees two extra icons on every vesselthumbnail :
- copyright abuse (user will be blocked, until issues are cleared)
- image not accepted (image gets deleted after 2 weeks, but is immediately hidden on the website)
after clicking one of this icons the admin would have to give a short explanation for this decision, which gets also send to the Uploader for information
- all regular users wan't see any of this functionality
- it would be a fast way to handle all issues around image uploading
we would also need to open a discussion about rules and quality measures we are using....
We will introduce this new functionality this thursday (martin and me are going to the hack booth at noon)... Any comments are welcome !! Lars
I changed today the order of shown vessel-images on the vessel detail page.
Thinking about a sort order reflecting the vote count, I thought it is much more honoring the uploader, if the first attached image is also shown as first.
So older uploads are first now in the list. We still can change this order later on in any way.

have to find now the bug, which causes the pagers for the images to dissapear....
I like the idea of forming an ImageAdmin Group, I for one would be willing to participate. I think the net should be cast as wide as posible to get Ideas, Then a small team should formed to form evaluate them and to produce a working format. If we get this right then I thing many members concerns could be eliminated.
I know that Miraflores and Stevo have both voiced an interest in the past and I would hope that they would be both willing to get involved as well.
Lets go for it!!
I believe in quality over quantity. If you have several pictures of a vessel, weed-out the marginal images and post the best one you have. Okay, maybe a couple of angles is OK (broadside, quarter-view, then bow or stern) -- but not 5 or 6 shots (or more) of the same boat on the same day.
I am a rather new member in this very nice site and I approve the fact that one good shot of a full ship is the only photo needed.
But I have two questions:
This morning I took photos of a ship passing in a channel, so no chance to take one full side image: In this case two angled views, one from the bow and one from aft , giving so a complete sight of the vessel, are acceptable?
Since many years ago, when I started my photo collection, I always thought a poor photo of a ship is always better than no photo at all. Does this not apply to digital-seas?
For instance, if one posts a long distance shot of a ship of which there are no images in the database, then at least a visitor could have an idea of what she looks like. As soon as a better photo is posted then the bad one can be cancelled.
What do you think?
I don't think so....I always thought a poor photo of ship is always better to put in rubbish bin than in any gallery. I am getting sick of those taken miles away,poor lighting, towards sun, poor post processing, increased contrast etc.....keep rubbish in bin or recycle it if you can.
@Rasman:
>> As soon as a better photo is posted then the bad one can be cancelled.
To find this particular moment is exactly the problem within every private image collection. Almost nobody goes back and decides again about things done in the past. This is true for other topics in live also :-)
I think it is only a question of time, to have perfect pictures for most of the vessels around in Europe or America, with that many very good spotters taking action.
We want to be the place with the best quality possible.
So there is no better way of doing the decision right in the moment the question accours:
- in the case of a bad image (gray, blurred, long distance, foggy, partly) hit the delete button - or for DS: do not upload
- our moderators will do so in the moment they are getting aware
@ais-split: of course the matter of deciding about quality is a very personal thing. To remember the special moment of taking the image and the circumstances could be reason enough to love the image yourself. I hope that we will work out a common understanding and rules for this Site.
hi, i just joined the site today and uploaded a photo of bbc africa...i have lots of photos taken from my station, but few are full ship photos and mainly taken during the night...are these ok?
Welcome to this community.
Nightshots are welcome and if possible only full ship pictures
My photo's are 1024 x768
You can upload them as large as possible, we do not have size restrictions.
My Nikon D90 resolution downsampled to:
PixelXDimension 2144
PixelYDimension 1424
is a practical size.
