  1. Juli 23 2008 I have uplaoded a picture of
    Name: ANALIPSI LADY
    MMSI: 636012313
    IMO: 9282443
    Call sign: A8EQ8
    Flag: Liberia
    Vesseltype: tanker
    Width: 32 m
    Length: 227 m

Today I see the my picture, exactly the same from juli 23, uploaded yesterday bij the Chalenge group from Egypt. who subscribed yesterday sept 7 2008.
For me it its a violation of my copyright.

  2. Hello Jan,

We will get in contact with the uploader today by mail and inform them about the missuse. The uploaded image will be deleted. We had a couple users over the time, just trying out the upload feature with other people images. We encourage them, not to do so.

There is also a small chance of technical problems on the DS site, where images getting wrong id's during the upload-process.
We will, from today on, allow the view of the original image only for the owner (download option in thumbnails). We can discuss this in the forum. We thought it's a feature to exchange images, but maybe, it's a bit to easy.
Let's check on this, we will give you the results today.

    Hint:
Digital-Seas does not remove original Exif or IPTC data from images. A good way to make your copyright even clearer, is to include such data inside your vessel-images. It also makes tracking of the origin of images easier.
There are nice FireFox Plugins for the display of Exif - Data, not sure about IE:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/search?q=exif&cat=all

  4. The user "Challenge group" replyed to my mail with an excuse about: "...happened by accident". We decided not to delete the account and responded with the encourage to shoot images himself and to upload them here to show respect for other people efforts.

Jan, I hope this is satisfying your expactations also, thanks for being aware of the action.
Over times, frauds like this will happen again, either by purpose or accident. We had other people uploading images from various spotting - sites, which we will delete. Since all of the uploading sites now marking the images with logos, we have done so also, to make the origin of copy a bit clearer.

Anyway, the owner of the picture always has a download button on our site without any marks/logos and with the original IPTC data remained. This makes DS for any User a good place for keeping images in their full size (no size restrictions with us), but also sharing smaller versions with the public.

  5. Hi,

I got this message from one of my visitors on my websit www.fartygsbilder.com :

    Hello Lars,
Ive found a foto from you (BALTIC BREEZE I) stolen by an italian "baraccalugo".
    http://www.digital-seas.com/nc/open_space/user_detail/username/-df4256eb07.html

    RegardsJuergen

When I made a visit to the above adress I found that it was correct, the picture has been stolen directly from my website.
Even my copyright information is still on the picture.

I would appreciate if you could remove the picture from this site.

    Best regards
    Lars Nielsen

  9. Guess who is the rightful owner of the pictures on Amirante and Baltic Breeze 1 ?
    Answer:

    Boatman1966,
Thats why I uploaded the pictures.

Maybe someone can e-mail the "thief" and ask him to remove my pictures from his account.

    Regards,
    Boatman1966 / Lars

  10. I think the time has come to make it clear to all members, or certainly those who are active, that it is not acceptable to upload any immage other than those photographed by the uploader him or herself.
As I suspect that most members are not reading this Forum, then I think that MindOpen should consider sending an e-mail to all members spelling this out and requesting that they remove any of their offending uploads ASAP. This should also be explained in the process of uploading.

  11. First, I wish every one all the best for 2009!
That was kind a bad timing, since I just came back from wintersports and did not have any Internet in between. So waves are raising and yes of course I have to get active. Thanks IanJohn for the hints.
All people with miss used images are mailed and their accounts will be blocked until they send an explanation. There will also be some programming to make other members aware and members should be able to communicate with each other. Allow two weeks for the new features. Lars

  14. All of the mentioned user accounts got disabled. They also got an email, where I demanded an explanation. If there is no response in the next 48h, there accounts will be deleted and the IPs will be banned.
We made some explanations near the upload functions, hoping to make our rules clearer. We also opened this Forum section for all messages about image-copyright . This place could also give some links and hints about the topic, there is a sticky topic just for that.
Now we have to do some further programming, for image comments and user PM.
Thanks to all for your input and the effort to make Digital-Seas a best quality place for Spotters.
