I suggest that you should differentiate between Tanker Types as the trades are completely different and the vessels purpose, design and operation as well .. something along the lines of Chemical Tanker --- Gas Tanker -- CPP Tanker -- Crude Tanker.
My expertise is in Gas and will gladly add to the types with a comment in the WiKI pages TYPE: GAS VESSEL until you guys can get around to changing the set up .... Thank you and hope the comments are constructive for you.

@Stevo
It's very simple to find out. Check the fotos from the user I claimed here and look for the IMO in Shipspotting or Vesseltracker, where you can easily find the fotos, mostly with the original watermarks.

Hello All,

Our Picture of "Aigran D" IMO:9138408 is stolen from shipspotting.com by the Italian "baraccalugo" http://www.digital-seas.com/nc/open_space/user_detail/username/-df4256eb07.html

We shot this picture at Ruisbroek (Belgium) July 7th (21:58 h) and was posted with our copyright sign © Freger65 on shipspotting.com but never on this site.

It's very sad and disappointed that some mebers here on this site use pictures of others. Will it never stop?

We would appreciate if you could remove the picture from this site.

Hi Guys,
let's talk about everything related to vessel-images here:
http://forum.digital-seas.com/forum/vessel-images/
I did write to both members already and also disabled their accounts until I will recieve an answer. We will not accept any copyright fraughts on this site, even though we still have to find a faster way to act on this. That's why we ill introduce a remark feature right near the images, so everybody is able to adress coments right near the picture. We also need to start a section about the do's and the dont's of pictures, related to viewports, angles, quality, preparation and size. Let's start collecting hints in the upper mentioned section. Lars

not only some pictures but all pictures are stolen by VALIUS from other shipspotter, most of them from shipspotting.com, but also from Vesseltracker.
A new member, named VALIUS1964 has uploaded 22 fotos today, all origin from Shipspotting.
And another member CORNELIU did the same, all "his" fotos are original from Vesseltracker.
And another member Pricoleg did the same.
I do not know why you have a problem because I claimed some fotos.

Hi Stevo,
It would appear that either members do not read Forum items or that they do not really care whether information on this web site is correct or not.
I also see that 'miraflores' has noted that some pictures have been stolen from other websites and uploaded here, see 'New WIKI edits', bringing this excellent site into further disripute. I do hope MindOpen takes some action and at least asks 'VALIUS' for an explanation.
I have also noted that some other members are loading images with logos, of cause there could be a perfectly good reason.

I have noticed that quite a few pictures do not fit the relevant ship data, some are of the correct vessel but with an earlier or later name, whilst other pictures are of a completly diferent ship, having possibly the same name.

Some ships change names several times a year while others hardly ever. The IMO Number, if a ship qualifies for one, remains with the vessel from the shipbuilders yard to the scrap yard and is the only identification which remains constant, even the size and shape of ships can alter.
It is also noticeable that some data, which I assume has come directly from AIS-static-data, is missing or at worst incorrect, IMO Numbers, weights and dimensions, and even sometimes the name e.g. ‘M V Ship Name’ instead of ‘Ship Name’.

Any incorrect data has the effect of giving less confidence in the database as a whole and I believe errors should be reduced to a minimum. I think that more problems would be caused than solved if the entries could to be altered by all members. However I think that a simple reporting procedure should be developed that would encourage members to report errors and missing data, and so enable corrections to be made.

May I throw open the following for discussion :-
Lars and Thomas must be in complete agreement to whatever follows.

A small group of about 5 volunteers could be formed to look at reported corrections and a minimum of 3 agreeing would enable changes to be made.
I would be happy to be 1 such volunteer.

Please add your, hopefuly constructive, comments.

http://www.digital-seas.com/vessel_search/vessel_details.html?tx_drwiki_pi1%5Bkeyword%5D=255706000_8513156
But when I took picture name of vessel was RENO.

Can we change this?? I thought I could do this in wiki but not.

The dataset of the MIRCEA is wrong and incomplete. The dataset of EUROPA is incomplete too. Both ships have the same MMSI?
(Captn Brass has uploaded photos for both.) The EUROPA hasn't been in Rostock for a long time. I think the tracked data for this ship is wrong, is of another ship. EUROPA is a ship's name that is used often...

Hi Thomas,
so far I use the data given at digital-seas to find out if your ship PHOENIX is the same ship that I have in my database. I compare the ship's name, sometimes a photo, the flag and length.
I'd try to help but I'm afraid I cannot. I don't have IMO or MMSI codes in my datasets. So in a distinct case I never know exactly if we speak about the same ship. By the way, it would help me a lot to decide what ship is behind a distinct IMO number when knowing the year when it was built.
So when I find an obvious bug in the data I send you a message but we have to be careful with such hints.
Volker

Hi Volker,
only the DS-team can correct invalid vessel data at the moment, but we plan to give users the possibility to do this too. Most of the data comes directly from AIS-static-data (type 5 messages). That's a really good source for vessel data, because the guys onboard should know how big their vessel is. :)

But you are right. Sometimes the received data makes no sense. And that's the reason why we need you. If you could send me the real dimension, I'll correct it. In future you'll do it yourself, if you like.

So thanks for your feedback, Thomas

I have a question regarding the ship profiles. Who can put in the data? Who can correct this? Where do you take the data from?

In the profile of some ships I have found some measurement that I'd doubt about. See for instance the sailing ship called PHOENIX. I know 2 or 3 ships with this name. None of these has a length over all of 60 metres.
