Hey, thanks a lot for your reply and your usefull information.
Yes, I agree with you that this analysis of AIS data might be a profitable business. Wish you success in developing further your webmap service! I'll keep your website in mind.

now we are talking business..., the history tracking of groups of ships, would probably be a paid feature inside DS, if we would realize it :-)
Of course there is big potential in getting access to data like this, for all kind of companies. We will start soon though with the port-records of tracked vessels (something like "the last ten ports of the ship"), this will give you the idea.

Inside our vessel-search: http://www.digital-seas.com/vessel_search/vessel_archive.html you always can define a special search, for instance for ship-types, flags etc. There is no filtering inside Fleetmon yet, you have to wait for the next version (2.0) which will be a big step for realtime tracking.

It is funny, you are using a wording from the old GDR "nomenklatura", which ment there your position inside the political system. If your question is about: whow is the ship getting there AIS signal, this could be of help:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_Identification_System

Hi there,
I would like to know if there is a kind of filter for searching ships of a certain type and if there is the possibility to observ not only the current position but also the "tracking history" of a special ship or a group of ships of a certain type?

Another question that came up to me is if there is a system behind of how ships get the AIS nomenklatur?
Thanks a lot for replying
Kind regards
