I would like to welcome new members, which are very active.
There is Thomsen with his nice images of cargo vessels, uploading a hole bunch over the last two days.

Miraflores is online, with his outstanding images from the Kiel-Kanal. I really enjoy the pictures of Mega-Yachts he uploaded over the last days. Just Great! And a perfect addition to the Gallery.

@rob1053
If I don't like my own fotos I would not have uploaded them, but I want to make clear, that I have never voted for my own fotos. It does not disturb me if there is one, ten or no vote on my fotos.
And it is not possible, that seconds after uploading it would be rated by members who are not logged in.
I'm not a policeman watching constantly for stolen images, but I hate steeling other people fotos.
Why I have not uploaded my fotos is a long, long story.

It is a pure technical problem, miraflores is describing here. Due to his very sharp view, we will figure out all these little buggies soon :-)
The images are outstanding all together and if we only had images like this quality, I never had spend time for a thumbs up function, because it would be redundant.
Will figure out next night about the old accounting again.....

I don't realy understand these posts-what do they mean?
I thaught the whole thing about the 'thumbs up'is that it is not a vote as with the old star system but just said 'I like this photo'.
Sometimes I have noticed that my own name is listed on my own photos but it does not actualy bother me because I actualy like ALL my images that I upload that is why I upload them !
As to your images, miraflores,I have looked at all of them and i believe that you are one of the foremost photgraphers to upload to this site .I ,for one, would like to say that I would give each and every one of them a thumbs up.As for those that SUMMI and Mind Open were not on line for I am sure they would have voted for them if they were on line.
It is sad that one of the site members is dead ,maybe he is still looking down on us and is so stuned by the quality that he has reached out to from beyond the grave?

But seriously ,are you upset that people like your photos?Lets not get into another school yard argument of 'he likes you but he does not like me its not fair :-( ' I thaught we were past all that.
One last thing I always looked upon you as the policeman of the site constantly watching out for stolen images but never seemed to upload-Why?Your images are outstanding I wish I could produce images like yours but I do not have, and probably will never have, the skill to produce anything like them.

The above typed whilst MindOpen was posting his comments

Now, You've got the thumb, Stevo. Not sure if this is visually more impressive... but it makes a bit more sense :-)
Setting the lead picture for ImageAdmins will be the next step. I wrote a plan for that today, since some parts of the site, Fleetmon and the API are involved with that. Following after: the administration of the vessel-data.

It looks good, but I can't click on a star.
Maybe you can change the star with a thumbs up :o)

About the lead picture, this should be possible for the image-admin to change, same like changing wrong imo vessels, changing inappropriate comments and stuff like this.
But first let them work on a new database system so it's possible to change some details.

Good job, I hope it rain's a lot in Rostock this year ;o)

@IanJohn: @ Rob:
Well blaming me that I have a friend or someone I vote? I said in previous debates, this is not a contest to see who has more stars, I present him all to Stevo, if if there is content, and is given by settled this debate.

If it is true that there are shots that do not deserve to have more than one star, but it is also true that "like to paint colors," I will never be fixed if you have or not have, is one of the things that influence me, I will not be erasing all the stars that I give to the friend Steve is happy, I put a lot of stars, and he never gave me any.

So that's what he wants, he knows the what is just or unjust, when no one ever gives a star.

If you want to change the way of scoring, I do not care I'm all, as the watermark.

If I do not like taking it off and you're,

Regards: Javier Alonso Castro

@ IanJohn @Rob:

RRS DISCOVERY Image uploaded today(25/04)by roger5261

Here is a classic example of where the star system does not work properly.

RRS Discovery was built in 1962 as an oceanographic reserarch vessel. To date no images of the vessel had been uploaded.

To his credit roger5261 has uploaded 2 images.
I have commented one one of them.It is an almost bow on shot of Discovery tied up at the Quayside. If I were to 'star' this image I would rate it a minimum of 3 stars as I,personaly, like this image.I did however make a suggestion to the member as to how he could possibly improve the image but I was not there this may have been the only possible angle he could achieve(see my images of the new cruise vessel Azura),so he deserves a 'well done!' from me

If I were an image administrator how would I act,if I were to follow the guidelines I should delete the image as it does not show all of the vessel. This would,in my opinion,be wrong as it would only leave roger5261's other image of the vessel.

So,once again my opinion is that the star system is flawed but to comment gives the member more personal credit or advice

Regards

Whilst i agree in principle with Ian's comments in that I do not like the star system ,nor do I use it anymore, and would like to see it abandoned I would say that when I did use it I,personaly, used it fairly and awarded the stars on the merit of the photograph.
I no longer use the star system but now comment on photographs that I like and photoghaphs where I feel that the member could have done better(in a nice way).
I get more pleasure out of this and I hope that the recipients do as well.
I do count myself as one of Javier's friends and do comment quite a lot on his images as I also do for mtarrago, grassbrook, rampopo pixelopel and,I believe some of yours Ian and Steven's as well.In the main these listed are members whose images I like.Until the system is abandoned, and I belive in a previous post Lars said he did not like it and was considering it's future,we should ignore it as it can provoke the worst in us(to my embarrasment I recently blew up after a 1 star rating of Azura and publicly appologised) To quote Lars 'come on guys lets have some fun.
Respectfoly

@ Javier & Stevo
You seem to be both in agreement. Stevo is complaining that some people are not voting in the way it was intended, That you should rate the individual picture, and not the member who took it.
Javier is confirming that he has friends who give 4 or 5 stars for his pictures, not because they are excellent, but because they were taken by him, I suspect he does the same for some of his friends.
It is this type of situation that brings the voting system in to disrepute and I believe due to the arguments it causes, it should be abandoned now.

@ Stevo

1st I have no fault that I have friends who vote

2nd I want to be quiet, but you seem to want to mess, you know that these things I like very much, if not tease me, go and take a couple of beers and see if you calm down,

3rd yours With that attitude you will never have friends, you are very controversial, give bad answers, you are so vulgar.

4 Always these "CRYING" just everyday things you complain about, but important, important not interest you, such as making friends, this is a defect that you if do not vote your photos that are not working, I never I will vote, why do not deserve it,

5th On weekends, you like to play the bagpipes, so you know, do not break my head, and go to sleep it off, before you were born, I was already Antwerp playing the bagpipes, but not mess with people .

Javier Alonso Castro

@ Stevo

Congratulations to CX9AAW ,

He's the only one who is able to take 4 and 5 star pictures, unfortunately that some of these pictures are from a bad quantity. This rating system is not fair for all who is uploading pictures. I made my decision and I stop as image-admin and stop with uploading my pictures to DS.

Have a nice spotting day,

@comteluz: I understand your intention. but the question of quality and a special framing for the image is only answered with the "right" image. Shots taken at the pier are not easy to do, often only the name stays as a distinction.
We decided to come up with full vessel shots only, to give users a common visualization way. This needs a harge selection (also for my own shots :-). lars

in fact agree that the picture quality is very important. but I intend to see that there was no picture to illustrate them and I having in my files, so I decided to illustrate them so that users Tiesse minimal knowledge of the ship they were seeking. Probably later when another user has a more recent photo could post and replacing the existing picture. This was my intention. I believe that my files before deleting Image ID: 71574 ID: 71581 should note that these vessels are no visual references.

@rob: the vessel history section is created automatically. If a vessel changes its name or mmsi or flag, we will create a new "body" (list entry) and link to older records. This mechanism works quiet well, older attached images to that "body" will stay visible.
It would be a good idea to visualize the "real" history somewhow. Until then the Wiki Field is a good place to describe and give hints to changes. We can use that info to improve the automatic recognition.

Thanks for your swift reply IanJohn.
This would be usefull.Today I uploaded an image of Ostend Spirit(Not a great image plenty of quay side but it moves faster than I could!) which has recently been renamed to coincide its change to the Ramsgate Ostend route and the return of passenger ferries to ramsgate(Freight only since the demise of the Sally Line in Ramsgate),The vessel detail page has 4,now 5,images of the vessel 2 as Pride of Aquitaine under P&O,2 as Norman Spirit under LD Lines and 1 as Ostend Spirit still under LD Lines.
It would be nice to take one of each image and make a visual history of the vessels changes
In the mean time I have made a general information Wiki page for the vessel including its history.
